Queer Workshop for Pride
Carla received a Creative Individuals grant through the MN State Art Board to run a blacksmithing program for queer youth in 2024. The youth students learn the basics of blacksmithing then build sculpture to represent their queer identities and life experience. The experience concludes with an exhibition and demonstration event in our North Minneapolis based studio during PRIDE 2024.This program is the inspiration for continued work in industrial arts education in the Twin Cities.
Hands-on workshops
Blacksmithing and welding workshops are offered to youth ages 12 and older. Students learn studio safety and basic industrial arts skills as they experience a fun hands-on process working in an industrial shop. Our professional mentors guide students through project-based learning, followed by designing and creating individual sculpture. Students are invited to show their work in a final exhibition and demonstration event in our North Minneapolis based studio.
Studio Interns & Teaching Assistants
Students who complete the basic programs of IAMA and who are committed to further developing their skills and supporting other youth may apply for a studio internship or teaching assistant position.
Carla Hall is a fiscal year 2024 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
