August's Art Exhibit
Twin Cities Pride 2024
ARTIST BIO: August Wernimont is a Minneapolis South High senior who loves precision artistry. He has a passion for making art through many mediums ranging from metal and additive manufacturing to wood carving and drawing. Hoping to go onto engineering college next year he sees the beauty within well thought out parts made by a skilled maker. August loves exploring new methods of creation and widening his skill set to create beautiful but functional pieces of art. August believes that having functional, beautiful tools that get used bring new meaning and connection from the artist to the user.
ARTIST STATEMENT: I have always loved making things for others, regardless of my methods of creation it has been a constant in my life. My artistry typically comes out in the form of precise repeatable movements with lots of geometric and simple straight lines. The creativity inside me has brought me to so many diverse areas of art such as string art, precision machining, perspective drawing, and now a whole new world of blacksmithing.
I have always been a math person and I have been fascinated for a long time with how much equations can accurately predict ridiculously complicated things like astronomical patterns and how life works as a whole. A lot of what fuels my art comes from these seemingly simple components such as equations or simple lines can lead to a complex form by the end of the making process. I take a great deal of my work ideas from geometric design and engineering concepts, some of my favorite works have come out of using tools as simple as a compass and straightedge. Finding complexity in even the most basic and elementary feels an apt description of life as a whole.
My life is now on a path to become a professional engineer and I hope to bring my creative mind with me on the journey. I will be the first to admit that my talent as an artist does not shine with the vagueness and uncertainty that many artists embrace. My skills lie elsewhere in a more technical and precise genre of art that often feels forgotten that definitely borders on engineering. With my art I hope to show off that not all artforms have to be the same, the process of engineering as a whole is an art unto itself.
